Choosing the Right Business to Open

I recently attended an event put on by the IFPG (International Franchise Professionals Group) and I have to tell you, there are a lot of business opportunities available. Deciding the right business opportunity can be difficult in today's market.

Choosing a Business Based on Looks

Many people are drawn to what I call distinguished businesses. These are businesses that look cool and are fun to talk about to your friends and family at dinner parties. They may even cause a sense of pride to swell up due to the prestige involved in owning and running this type of business.

Maybe the clientele is extremely affluent or held in high regard by their community. Perhaps you get to dress a certain way or act a certain way in order to sell the product or service. I am not saying there is anything wrong with these businesses, but many of them are not that profitable or scaleable.

Choosing a Business Based on Familiarity

Many of us know what businesses we think we'd like to open. Maybe your favorite restaurant is appealing to you. Perhaps a business based on a hobby or side job you currently do is up your alley, like lawn care or food delivery. Again, owning one of these businesses is not a bad thing and in fact, can be done to be very profitable.

Choosing a Family Friendly Business

This is not a business bashing session because someone could certainly find flaws in what we do. Crawling around on our hands and knees in filth and sometimes even feces. Getting up in a 120-degree attic just to deliver a quote. But you know what, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Our business model is designed to create a great work-life balance. We focus our business on family. Not just our own family, but the family of our business owners, employees, and customers. We want Crawl Space Ninja to be a Monday through Friday business and no more than 50 hours a week. Will some of you people work an occasional Saturday? Sure, these are the inspectors that need to meet with homeowners when they are home.

No Constant Travel in Our Business

We wanted to make sure our business opportunity kept families together also. Very little travel is required except for the occasional training and convention, but even then we encourage families to join in the event.

No 24/7 On-Call Scenarios

When I was in the Navy, I was on call 24/7. I have also been involved with other businesses that were emergency service. When do most emergencies happen? Late at night or on the weekends. I also had a retail business at one time that was open 7-days a week and if someone did not show up, I had to go in and take care of the customers.

I am not saying Crawl Space Ninja is perfect but if you are looking for a great work-life balance and family-friendly business opportunity, I hope you will consider looking at our business model.
